The Grand Celebration of Reading is coming up on Monday, May 7th, at the Bobby Orr Arena. Events will take place until 1:30 PM that day. Come out and enjoy hearing from special Canadian Authors. The Special Education Advisory Committee is asking for parents of identified students to please fill in a survey questionnaire. This questionnaire provides feedback to celebrate areas of improved practice and to guide us in our ongoing improvement planning. The survey can be accessed on the Board website under the "Parents" tab as well as "In the Spotlight". The title is "SEAC Survey". Thanks for your assistance with this survey.
SlowPitch Season is upon us. The Junior and Intermediate Tournaments will take place on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. Thanks to our coaches for their dedication.
McDougall School is now taking JK Registrations for September 2012. If your child was born in 2008, this is the time to register for Junior Kindergarten. Senior Kindergarten students, who are not presently in JK, may register now as well. Please call the school for further information - 705-746-5904. The Chess Tournament held on April 11th was well attended by McDougall students. A special thanks goes to Mr. Heiser for his ongoing support and chess guidance.

We have a fresh batch of new books on their way. There is a large selection of non-fiction books that Library Services purchased and we are in the process of cataloguing and soon to be available to the students.
During the last week of October, I walked the students through all of the exciting sites that are available to all students and parents on our Virtual Library. The NNDSB Virtual Library has been created for the use of students, parents and teachers. It is accessible 24/7 from school and home. There are encyclopedia’s, sites with books that will read to the user, math sites, maps, government, current resources, all there to assist students with homework or projects. The link is as follows, and once open, it can be saved on your favourites, or a short-cut can be set up on your desktop.

WordQ3 is a computer software program that is available for download on your personal computer. It is a word prediction program that allows students to choose the correct word while they are typing. It also offers a reading feature that will allow the computer to read text to the students.
