v Student Representative’s Report was presented by Nate.
Student representatives collected suggestion from fellow students of ideas which Nate proposed to S.A.C members of items the students would wish to have within the school. Suggestions included;
- A newsletter developed by the Grade 5/6 for the students similar to the newsletter that presently is sent home for parents. This newsletter would be for the students sent home on a monthly basis separate from the present newsletter.
- For the library to include more Holiday Theme Books
- An Author to visit the school. It was suggested to invite an author who writes books mid-range so that it is someone all the kids could relate to and enjoy. A few names were suggested including Michael Wade, Robert Munsch.
- To have the Music Lab back up for use. Jen Nicholas stated that it is set up but still some work is required before completion. Jen also stated that Ms Torrance & Ms Stark will be attending training at Whitestone.
- Student Recreational program and afterschool programs such as extra help/tutoring. Jen Nicholas stated that there may be some special funding program to assist with this.
- Snowshoes
- More ice block makers for snow forts
- Two more squares to be painted/added to the four-square in order for more kids to play at a time.
- Invite Science North to present an interactive program.
- Multicultural Day. Suggestions were made to learn about a culture and then celebrate the culture studied with a food day.
v Principal’s Report presented by Jennifer Nicholas.
-School Improvement Plan was set out to set learning goals but was found to be too broad. The Super Intendent asked schools to list the one thing that their school needed to focus on. Report cards, EQAO and other accessory tools were used to determine what area required the most focus of attention. It was found that Math was a trend as a learning need.
Focus will be with present teaching methods and purchasing a number of resources that tie to Math. Students will be placed where their abilities are using co-teaching methods. This method will use the expertise within the school as opposed to sending a teacher to a workshop where not all teachers can receive the benefit of the workshop. Students will be mixed to help broaden their Math techniques and skills.
-School Picture retakes were done and proofs should be in soon
-On Friday November 25, 2011 was M.C.S T-shirt day. All new students received a new school t-shirt from the Magnetawan Lions.
-Mr. Tim Yearington will be working with the 3/4, 5/6. He is an Artist in Residence for Native Medicine Wheel program and teaches art & culture. This is a Board funded program.
-PJ drive. Goal is 50. Presently at 14. Deadline for the PJ drive is Dec 16.
-Classes have been practicing for the Christmas Concert. Concert date is Thursday December 15 @ 7pm at the Community Center. This is open for the community.
-Katelyn Coughlin from Nippissing University will be working with the Grade 1/2
-Michelle Johne has accepted the ECE placement with Grade JK/SK
-Jennifer Carter has accepted placement as FSL for .30
-Andrea Deacon has accepted placement for Long-term while Sharon McGregor is On Leave.

Jill Fraser expressed that although she believes that the PJ Drive through the Burk’s Falls RBC is for an excellent cause as it supports The Children’s Aid Society, she feels that more should be done to support more locally. It was proposed to possibly not do the PJ drive next year and look at other alternatives to raise and donate as a school within our community.
A suggestion was made to have a coat exchange where you could bring gently used out grown coats for exchange for another.
Next Meeting Date is; January 30, 2012
